Aim of the Scholarship

The Create & Cultivate Scholarship has been created to support the best emerging fashion, textiles and design talent from Sub-Saharan Africa, providing mentoring and financial support to further their education and career prospects.

The Scholarship provides full fee remission for one of the following: One-Year Master 60 credits courses all based in ACM in Rome / Milan. Every Academic Master Programme involves Industry Projects and a research internship in order to make the study experience concrete.

The course options are:

Alta Moda / Fashion Design

The Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design is addressed to graduates who wish to complete or to enhance their cultural and professional experience in Alta Moda, a unique and exclusive field within Fashion Design.

Alta Moda (Haute Couture) is the creation of unique made-to-measure garments created with extensive research and experimentation, often using the highest quality of fabrics (which is studied) craft and technology, embellishments, and experimental cut to explore a new definition of couture.

Upon completion of the Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design students will be able to pursue a career as Designers inside the Creative Offices of Haute Couture ateliers and in leading companies in Prét-à-Porter or to work as Product Office Managers and to cover various professional roles in Fashion: from the design of a collection to textile and print design, embellishment up to the creation of their own business.

 

Fabrics Innovation Design

The Academic Master in Fabrics Innovation Design, in collaboration with some of the most renowned manufacturing fabric companies of Made in Italy. This course addresses the needs of graduates who wish to enhance their career prospects with a professional study path based on history, culture, creativity, research and most importantly innovation in fabric development (Textile Design), one of the most challenging and rapidly evolving fields within the entire Fashion Industry.

The creative exploration in fabrics requires a complex combination of knowledge and skills underpinned by a deep cultural background in the specific fields of fashion and the arts in general. The Master is mainly centred on innovation with a particular focus on Sustainability and Responsible Innovation.

Upon completion of the Academic Master in Fabrics Innovation Design students will be able to pursue a career as Fabrics Designers in textile and materials (design, printing, and manipulations) or to cover professional roles in support of the creative direction in the design of a collection.

 

Accessories Design

The Academic Master in Accessories Design is addressed to graduates who wish to complete or to enhance their cultural and professional experience in Accessories Design. Accessories sales within the luxury fashion sector create the highest revenue, and has often acted as an excellent entry into the industry and has pathed the way for the careers of many creative directors.

This Master provides students with the conceptual knowledge needed to understand the new contemporary narratives and able to analyse the current socio-economic developments within the Fashion system, positioning them correctly within the leather goods, footwear and accessories market sector.

Upon completion of the Academic Master in Accessories Design students will be able to pursue a career as Designers inside the Creative Studios, Product Studios or Design Studios and to cover the various professional roles in Fashion such as Research and Development of Materials to Product Managers, up to the creation of their own business.

Application for November 2022 Intake

In order to maintain the high quality of the learning experience, each of the Academic Master programmes observes a limited enrolment policy. To be admitted in the course, applicants are required to submit their resume, motivational letter, and portfolio. The evaluation and an admission interview with the Academic Directorship will help all concerned find the best candidates that can make the most of these one-year courses.

Who Can Apply

This is a competitive scholarship scheme aiming to support those with the greatest financial need, talent in the relevant subject areas, and future potential.

The Create & Cultivate Scholarship is open to applications from nationals of the following Sub-Saharan African countries:

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo Democratic Republic, Congo Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Côte D’Ivoire, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Keyna, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Students must have:

– Bachelor Degree or Bachelor of Arts related to the course of study of the Master
– Bachelor Degree or Bachelor of Arts different from the above mentioned and not related to the study path of the Master, upon evaluation of the Academic Directorship on the eligibility of the application
– Professionals with proven experience in the field and students holding a specialization or non-academic study titles related to the study path, upon evaluation of the Academic Directorship on the eligibility of the application
– Valid Passport
– Fluent and proficient in English

Evidence of the above must be submitted with the application.

A plus but not mandatory: B1 level of Italian language (intermediate level) proven by a valid Italian language certificate

Accademia Costume e Moda is looking for students who will actively contribute to the course and take an original approach to their work and they must have a keen interest in pursuing a career in Fashion Design, Fabric Innovation Design, Accessories Design.

This scholarship is potential, and needs based; therefore, all applicants will have to submit detailed evidence to support their financial need for the scholarship in order to progress to the next step.

Financial Need

The successful candidate will need to provide evidence of the household income below the average for his / her country with one of the following:

– Tax returns
– Bank statements
– Payslips
